7 Days UX Writing Challenge
Creating an UX Writing portfolio is one of challenging challenge. If UX Designers can convey the characters or personalities through visuals, UX Writers can pour what they want to convey through stories or experiences.
Make a UX Writing portfolio is a challenging challenge to do, and I want to take that challenge. While read more study cases and dig more about UX Writing, I want to start from a little step by doing an UX Writing Challenge. My real purpose to do this challenge is to step up my UX writing, also as an excuse to do UI Design exercise. I’m still newbie, but I will do my best.
What I Do
I tried to make a scenario, determine the challenge and make the alternative copy based on the scenario and challenge that I made. I also made and recreate the UI design.
Day 1. Pop Up Notification : Flight Canceled
A businessman is waiting for the last flight to go home. But unfortunately, the flight is canceled suddenly due to a bad weather.
Tell the user that the flight has been canceled due to a bad weather.
Instead of saying it directly, I prefer to say it in soft and polite way by giving a personal touch. So the user can feel the caring attitude and get an empathy and forget about the flight has been canceled.
Day 2. Notification : The Product is out of stock
This month is having a big sale day. Users want to check out, but unfortunately the product they want to buy is out of stock because the product already sold out.
Tell the users that the product they want is sold out.
Although the product they want to buy has sold out, my aim is to minimizing user’s anger and disappointment by referring them to the page where the users can see another alternative product.
Day 3. Reminder: The Cart is empty
The users didn’t do any transaction yet and the cart is still empty.
Tell the users to fill the empty cart.
I used emoji in the microcopy to add user’s awareness and to encourage user to fill the shopping cart as soon as possible. I also have another alternative microcopy with emoji :
Your cart is empty😲
Someone is lonely... The cart🙁
Lets fulfill your cart.
Day 4. Error Message : Wrong Password
User typed the wrong password.
Tell the user to type the right password.
User made a mistake. Although the user did mistake — typed the wrong password, as much as possible to inform the mistake politely. Using the word ‘Oopsie’ is used to show recognition of a mistake or minor accident, often as part of an apology.
Day 5. Onboarding : Registration has successful
This is the first time user register in shopping mobile application.
Tell the user that the registration has successful.
Taking a consideration because the user already did a long way to make an account and do the registration, my goal here was to give a message and congratulate them that they did well with the registration and can go forward to do the main goal which is shopping.
Day 6. Notification : Promotional Home screen
User is a Buddy — A fan of GFRIEND, and GFRIEND will comeback soon to promo their song. User always want to follow about GFRIEND’s news and comeback updates.
Make a promotional home screen to subscription about GFRIEND’s content to the user.
My goal here was to use ‘call to action’ as an action so the user can do an action which is pressing ‘I’m coming!’ button so the user can subscribe about GFRIEND content.
Day 7. Pop-up Notification : Extend Membership
The user is a member of SEVENTEEN’s WEVERSE membership — an exclusive content for an artist, and the active period of the user’s membership will end soon.
Make a pop-up notification to tell the user that the active period of SEVENTEEN exclusive content will end soon.
This pop-up notification aims to make the users continue the membership service for SEVENTEEN exclusive content. By using the word ‘SOS!’ which means ‘emergency’, so the users feel that they have an urgency to extend their membership service.
This is the end of my UX Writing challenge. I didn’t make it in 7 days straight, but I made it one challenge per day. Not really tiring, but sure challenging. But in the whole process, I really enjoy it. I still have so many things to learn and my portfolio is not that perfect, so please kindly leave a clap👏 and suggestion about my future writing✍️
